剧情简介: With his dying breath, the Maharajah compels his young son. the Rajah Lal Chahda, to vow to exterminate the family of Sir Edward Thomas, the man who stole his favorite wife and gave him his death wound. Years later the Raiah, who has come to England, learns that Mae, daughter of Sir Edward, is about to wed Lieutenant Fitzhugh. Remembering his vow, the Hindoo sends Sir Edward a dagger. The Englishman and his Oriental wife are terrified upon receiving the death message. Mae and her husband leave for India. The following morning all England is stirred by the mysterious murder of Sir and Lady Edward. The Rajah returns to India. As time passes brooding over his vow unsettles the man's mind. It seems to him as though the spirit of his father were bidding him to complete his work by slaying Mae. One of his men, disguised as a servant, attempts to poison the girl, but the plot is discovered in the nick of time. A second attempt is made when a deadly cobra is hidden in the room where Mae's infant son is at play. The father discovers the child's awful peril and shoots the reptile just as it is about to strike. Enraged at the frustration of his plans, the Rajah determines to slay Mae with his own hands. Calling upon the woman, he informs her of his purpose. As he raises his arm to strike, Mae pleads for her life. The thought of killing a defenseless woman stays his hand and the Rajah departs. That night, at a feast given by him, it seems to his disordered mind as though his father's spirit were bidding him to expiate his failure to fulfill the vow. Emptying a vial of poison into his wine cup, the Rajah proposes a toast to his approaching death. Raising his cup in full view of his horrified guests, Lal Chahda quaffs the deadly draught.
