  • 剧情简介: In 2012, I filmed a popular televised Pentecostal church service held in a township of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. Pentecostalism in Africa has exploded; on every street corner, one can attend a service at any time of day. Churches are referred to locally as 'churches of awakening.' The service I filmed is what is called a deliverance, which, simply put, is an exorcism wherein evil spirits or demons inhabiting one's body are cat out by a pastor or a 'prophet,' to purify the body and soul. A considerable number of congregation members attend these services with the intention of being 'delivered.' Many enter into trance-like states manifesting symptoms of possession by falling on the ground, convulsing, vomiting, and speaking in tongues.
