  • Plot: This is a 1975 film made for German television without English subtitles, of the 1930's rewrite of an 1870's operetta.. Two poor ladies are courted at a Parisian milliner's. One attracts a painter and the other an Aristocrat. Both end up at a grand party at which the King is present. The painter's girlfriend is put up as the next mistress of the King to replace the aging Madame Pompadour. A plot is hatched to find a different woman to serve as the King's mistress. All is straightened out when the King realizes the girl he wants does not love the painter and doesn't want to even see him again. The plot is discovered and the perpetrator banished from Court. The painter's girlfriend becones the most powerful woman in France.
