  • Plot: Another of the Mentone Brevity shorts made by Milton Schwarzwald for Universal Pictures Company, Inc. distribution (and not distributed by MCA/Universal, which did not exist in 1936), filmed in New York and using NY radio, vaudeville and club talent mostly. This nine-minute short (not ten minutes), released on November 25, 1936 (not November 1,1936), feature Dan "Lazy Dan" Kaufman, (no, not the 1990's visual effects guy), Cecil Mack (yes, the lyricist from "Birth of the Blues) and Kay Mayfield (no, not Kay Mansfield.)It has a FICTIONAL plot centering around "Lazy Dan" Kaufman, member of The Avon Four trying to sell himself to Eddie Bruce, who he thinks is the owner of a nightclub. Singer Kay Mayfield, then appearing on Broadway in "New Faces of 1937", signs a song , while Kaufman slips on some black-face and joins Cecil Mack and the Cecil Mack Choir in a song. Kaufman then sees Bruce carrying a waiter's towel and concludes he has been pitching his talent to the wrong man.
