- Plot: A superstar of early silent films, Earle Williams was a natural choice to play "Arsene Lupin" in Vitagraph's "Blue Ribbon Feature" version of the play based on French writer Maurice Leblanc's popular character. The gentleman thief was played by John Barrymore in a 1932 sound film, and variations of the character appeared for decades thereafter. This story follows the plot of the play, with Mr. Williams posing as the "Duke of Charmerace" and finding romance with duplicitous Ethel Gray Terry (as Sonia). Like most of Mr. Williams' films, the whereabouts of his "Arsene Lupin" is unknown and presumed lost. In production stills, he looks dapper in bow tie or tails, which is what audiences expected.***** Arsene Lupin (2/4/17) Paul Scardon ~ Earle Williams, Ethel Grey Terry, Brinsley Shaw, Billie Billings
