  • Plot: I have seen many dozen of the early Felix the Cat cartoons and because I am missing a few, I am glad I got the new DVD from Alpha Video and the collection of John Carpenter, as it featured several shorts I haven't been able to find elsewhere.During the 1920s, Felix the Cat was among the best and most popular of the cartoon characters. However, I must say that his transition to sound was not especially successful. Part of it is that while other animation studios began making cartoons with better animation and graphics, the Felix cartoons of 1930 didn't look all that much better than the ones from the early 20s. Another part is that although sound was added with the Felix cartoons in order to keep up with cartoons like "Steamboat Willie" (1928), the sound was pretty archaic by 1930 standards. Essentially, the cartoon was like a silent film with music and sound effects. As far as Felix goes, he laughed a lot and spoke in gibberish....while other non-Felix cartoons featured real dialog and language. This is NOT to say that "Tee Time" is unenjoyable. It's a pleasant if somewhat antiquated cartoon and is fun...but far from the character's best. In this film he mostly just plays golf and makes a nuisance of himself.
