Plot: Cast list is a hint that THE CLINIC is not merely a run-of-the-mill 1-day wonder from porn's primitive (pre-DEEP THROAT) days. Maria Arnold, Sandy Dempsey and Sandy Carey provide XXX royalty to a simple, but effective, opus.The sets are cheap (as usual) and the plot is minimal, but this anonymously made exercise is diverting and holds up well. It opens with Sandy Carey in her Caddy convertible dropping off doctor hubby Bill Scott at work, a small hospital. The hospital interiors look suspiciously like tiny hotel rooms, and Scott's office seems to be the same set as a waiting room where the cast humps on the carpet, but no matter, the fans were not interested in scenic verisimilitude, only sexual realism.A blond doctor Chris Wilson harasses busty nurse Maria Arnold, and after token resistance she services him impressively. Dempsey, butterfly tattoo hidden for most of her scene, is a patient who is reunited with old flame Scott and gives him quite a workout in her hotel bed. He callously dumps her après-sex, assigning another doc to her case, and Dempsey plays her role with her usual panache.No-name actress Lisa Scott plays nurse Scott (all the screen credits list the character names, rather than the actors' monikers), who dreams of humping Bill while listening to him in his office. This soft-focus fantasy scene is well-done, not mere filler.Wife Carey ends up at Ron Darby's apartment. He's a talented porn character villain (I had just seen him opposite Carey in one of his best malevolent roles in COLD FEET). Carey's talents both as porn performer and actress are simultaneously on display as she begrudgingly lets Darby hump her, due to her hubby's workaholic neglect. She's utterly convincing as the passive zombie for most of the scene, and equally believable (not exaggerating as most ultra-groaner XXX stars do) segueing to sexual pleasure as he helps her towards climax. Top-notch vignette ends with Ron hoping for a long and lasting relationship, but Carey merely replies "No thank you" and splits.Tag scene has Carey returning to the hospital to give Bill a ride home, and they make up, with him apologizing and promising to try harder.Musical score is quite effective, utilizing Wes Montgomery's easy-going jazz classic "Bumpin'" from the Verve LP of the same name, and other guitar jazz, varied by a New Age echo-chamber ethereal soundtrack to accompany the nurse's fantasy sex scene.What might have been just another masturbation-oriented time-killer emerges as a well-rounded little movie.
