  • AKA: Cristóbal Colón, de oficio... descubridor (Spain) , Cristóbal Colón, de oficio... descubridor
  • Plot: Silly spoof about Colón , Isabel De Castilla and Fernando II De Aragón and being starred by all-Spanish-star cast but really wasted . This ironic film ¨Cristóbal Colón , Oficio Descubridor¨ by Mariano Ozores is an "alternative " vision of ¨Cristóbal Colón¨ history and it displays a good cast , most of them playing known roles as Andrés Pajáres , Fiorella Faltoyano as Isabel , Luis Varela as Fernando II De Aragon , Angel De Andrés as Friar Juan Perez , Juan Carlos Naya as El Gran Capitan Gonzalo Fernández Cordoba , María Kosty as Beatriz -Colón's sweetheart- , Rafaela Aparicio as Boabdil's mother , Antonio Ozores as Juan II De Portugal , Alfredo Mayo as Deza , Manolo Gómez Bur as Cardenal Cisneros and Quique Camoiras as Fray Tomás de Torquemada . The film is freely based on the historical events about the famous discoverer who crossed the sea of darkness in search of honor , gold and the greater glory of God . As Colon following the theories of Marino De Tiro and Toscanelli and driven by his sense of destiny , tries to convince firstly to Juan II (Antonio Ozores) of the practicality of his proposed voyage to reach to Far East by sailing west . Being rejected by Juan II , Colón , then , goes to the Rabida Monastery and asks for help Fray Juan Perez who convinces Queen Isabella (Fiorella Faltoyano) that his plan to reach the East by sailing west is practical . Court intrigue and Granada war , including fight against Boabdil el Chico (José Carabias) , are roadblocks to the voyage , but thanks to the efforts of Colón , the navigator perseveres and ultimately prevails . In 1492 accompanied by others sailors , three magnificent navigators Martín Alonso Pinzón (Tomás Zori) , Vicente Yáñez Pinzón (Santos) and Juán De La Cosa (Alberto Fernández) , and their boats : La Pinta , Niña and Santamaría¨, Cólon and his seamen set off for America . This ridiculous tale there are anachronisms , goofs , abstract incidents , musical numbers , songs and amusement . The parody is continuous , hilarious , surrealist , absurd and sometimes gross-out , but in some moments here and there is also bold and risible . The sour comments and the past-present mixture loosely based on historic facts are extended in similar style to Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975). It's almost the same kind of picture , but with Spanish roles and typical Spaniard idiocracy . Colombus is ironically portrayed by Andres Pajares who takes a contemporary approach as an ambitious adventurer who finally gets the Queen of Spain , Isabel/Fiorella Faltoyano , along with Fray Juan Pérez/Ángel de Andrés to agree to finance his voyage . This ¨Colón¨ concerns an insane story of discovery with silly political confrontation behind , including crazy characters as the torturer Torquemada -Quique Camoiras- , the nutty Cardenal Cisneros -Manolo Gómez Bur- , Boabdil -Jose Carábias - , Rodrigo De Triana , among others . This picture contains acid political remarks with inclusion some embarrassing re-enacting of historical deeds as the capitulations of Santa Fé between Colón and Catholic Kings . Adding several observations to political aspects of Spain of the eighties , as the Regional Autonomias ; including the past-present politicians and trade unionist , such as : Manuel Fraga , Adolfo Suarez , Felipe Gónzalez , Marcelino Camacho and several others . The flick belongs to a trio mostly written by Juan José Alonso Millán and produced by Jose Frade , in which there are deep as well as acid satires to historic events mingled with actual political events , such as : ¨Juana la Loca... De Vez En Cuando¨ (1983) by Jose Ramon Larraz with Beatriz Elorrieta , Lola Flores , Jaime Morey , José Luis López Vazquez , Guillermo Montesinos and ¨El Cid Cabreador¨ by Angelino Fons with Angel Cristo , Carmen Maura , Manolo Gómez Bur , Paquita Rico , Pepe Da Rosa , Adriana Vega . In similar style was made ¨La Loca Historia de Los Tres Mosqueteros¨ (1983) by Mariano Ozores with Martes Y Trece , Antonio Ozores and Paloma Hurtado . The flick will appeal to Andrés Pajares fans and lunatic humor lovers . The motion picture produced by the notorious producer Jose Frade was regularly directed by Antonio Ozores and it got a big hit at box office . Being realized in his usual style with plenty of comical sketches , amusement , humor , nudism and entertainment . Mariano's family origin is into show business , being son of Mariano Ozores Sr and brother of José Luis Ozores and Antonio Ozores . Furthermore , uncle of Adriana Ozores and Emma Ozores . He has a prolific career , being recently payed tribute , receiving a Goya Award for his long cinematic path and many actors and technicians worked and ate thanks to the huge success of his films . Ozores is a writer and director , especially in comedy genre such as : Disparate Nacional , Tahiti's Girl , Brujas Magicas , Los Presuntos , Cuatro Mujeres Y Un Lío , Tío ¿De Verdad Vienen De París? , Alcalde Por Elección , Ellas Los Prefieren... Locas , El Apolítico , Jenaro El De Los 14 , Manolo La Nuit , El Abuelo Tiene plan , La Llamaban La Madrina , La Graduada , Venta Por Pisos and many others . Being his ordinary actors , the followings : Alfredo Landa , Lina Morgan , Paco Martínez Soria , Antonio Ozores , Jose Luis Ozores , Juanito Navarro and , of course , Fernando Esteso and Andrés Pajares .
