  • Plot: Important note: This is not a film review. I hope to be able to find and add as many silent film synopsis of films that have a survival status of unknown or presumed lost. I try to do as much research as I can and it is not my intention to deceive anyone, for sometimes the film does exist and some presumed lost films are still being discovered. I am more than delighted if someone has knowledge of a film listed as lost but survives, as I wish all silent films did survive. I hope the reader enjoys this brief synopsis.Compulsive gambler Tony Hamilton ( Adolphe Menjou ) bets his friend Dick ( Robert Agnew ) $5,000 that he will marry Charlotte Randolph ( Greta Nissen ), despite the fact that she is a total stranger and is engaged to the Duke de Val ( Genaro Spagnoli ). Tony wins his bet. During the honeymoon, Tony obtains Charlotte's permission to spend ten minutes at roulette, and, after he has been gambling non-stop for three days, she returns to her mother and obtains a divorce. A year passes. Tony learns that Charlotte is about to marry a wealthy baron; he returns to France but is too late to prevent the marriage. Tony stages an automobile accident in front of Charlotte's mansion, and her servants carry him into the house. He hides in her room and gives her five minutes to decide whether to elope with him or face a public scandal. She insists that he prefers gambling to love, but he convinces her otherwise; and they take leave of the baronial mansion, once again to face the divorce court and the alter. This 1925 silent comedy was based from the play Banco by Clare Kummer and Alfred Savoir, directed by William C. de Mille, starring Adolphe Menjou and Greta Nissen. The survival status of Lost: A Wife (1925) is listed in the American Silent Feature Film Database as; No holdings located in archives.
