She finds three suppers prepared, at which she nibbles, and then falls asleep. She is awakened by three women-hating men who rented the house from Sylvia's agent to find a place where they could be away from women, as each had had bad romantic experiences. Sylvia's elderly nurse arrives and the two women agree to remain in the caretaker's house. After the men drive away canoes full of women headed for the island, and a male youth attracted by Sylvia's bathing suit, they begin to grow fond of Sylvia. Christopher Kent, the youngest of the three, is visited by a married woman who earlier deceived him, but Sylvia jealously scares her away by claiming to be his fiancée. Christopher and Sylvia realize that they love each other, and at the end, are serenaded by the other men.
