  • Plot: A farmer's daughter runs away from home to join a male member of the fast set, and is subsequently abandoned by him. She finally obtains employment with a merchant company. Later she meets and marries a young rancher who takes her altogether on trust. Arriving at the ranch the newly-made wife finds in her husband's partner the man who abandoned her. The man and woman agree to silence and part. The husband hushes the wife's confession on her lips and takes her in his arms. Back on the old ranch a younger sister of the girl who ran away is subjected to a similar temptation and is about to yield to the tempter and leave her father when the old man opens the hidden chapter and tells the girl of her sister's experience. The girl wisely resolves to remain at home. The story ends with her restoring her former humble lover to favor and the driving from the ranch of the man who would have betrayed her.
