  • Plot: Gateway to India - Bombay (1932) *** (out of 4) This early entry in James A. Fitzpatrick's TravelTalks series takes us to Bombay, which we're told is the gateway to India. If you've seen any other films in this series then you know it basically works as a tourist guide. Fitzpatrick's camera captures the images while that great voice of his tells us the history of the place. We get to see the Taj Mahal hotel as well as various other famous locations. This includes a famous race track and the short closes with a view of the march of elephants. The highlight of the film is a street performer who does some truly remarkable tricks with his bird. I'm really not sure how long it took to train this bird but the tricks it does are truly wonderful and you'll be sitting there amazed watching it. However it was done this bird deserved its own film.
