  • Plot: I Love the Headmistress (As myliu direktore) a documentary short film by Viktoras Staros about the day-to-day life and problems of living in an orphanage. The short explores the personal experience and thoughts of V. Kaupeliene, director of Vilnius 1st orphanage. The narration of the story is based on a skillful management of all the cinematographic resources. A script that is apparently very loose but that contains a lot of "invisible work" to arrive at a naturalness of the staging that surprises the movie buff. A care of photography that enhances the environments in which the action takes place. As charming as a film of this sort can be, despite the episodic nature of the telling. All of the performances are right on target and the director has woven a tapestry of individual scenes that sparkle with truth and innocence. Makes you examine your own childhood feelings of loneliness or rejection--and the explorations that all of us are subject to. One of the best shorts which will leave you with a melancholic feeling after the credits roll.
