  • Plot: Raymond Massey narrates this short documentary film produced by the U.S. Treasury Department. Depicted is the battle of Iwo Jima in World War II, with the famous flag-raising atop Mount Suribachi by U.S. Marines and sailors. From the acclaimed photograph of the raising taken by Joe Rosenthal, sculptor Felix W. de Weldon creates a three-dimensional sculpture model, which then serves as the prototype for a larger statue which is installed at Quantico, Virginia, Marine Barracks. But de Weldon had a more ambitious plan, and with donations from citizens and Marines, he creates a 78-foot tall version of the statue and sees it installed at Arlington National Cemetery, where it stands as a memorial to all Marines who have died in the service of their country. In conclusion, actor and Marine Corps officer Tyrone Power makes an appeal for viewers to buy U.S. Savings Bonds.
